Yellow lens type is High Blue Blocker measuring 95% blocking of blue light. (Measured at 470nm.)
Clear lens type is the Moderate Blue Blocker measuring 35% blocking of blue light. (Measured at 470nm.)
No, the High Blue Blocking glasses and clip-ons are for circadian control for Sound Sleep & Night Driving. Wearing them during daylight hours should only be done for circadian shifting to a maximum of 2 hours unless you have consulted with a professional about circadian shifting. Wearing them as Sun Glasses could adversely affect your circadian cycle if you wear them for more than one hour without taking a bread from them. They do not block much of the other colors and thus do not work well as sun glasses. They do have UV protection like all good sun glasses have.
Yes, in rural areas as recommended by an Eye Doctor. The high blockers will take the sting out of bright headlights, especially the newer LED types, as the Low Beam headlights can now have 10,000 lumens or more of light which is high in blue light. This can cause glare and pain and a momentary blind spots due to saturation of the rods in your eyes. Long term viewing of high levels of blue light at night can cause serious health effects such as Macular Degeneration. The American Medical Association now cautions against blue light at night (see our research tab).
Yes they seem to work on a lot of glasses but were not designed to.
The minimum time is 1.5 to 2 hours before bed time. Once you put them on do not take them off till the lights are out. If you need to get up in the evening to visit the washroom then either; do not turn on any lights, or if you need to turn on lights then put on the High Blue Blockers before the light go on and take them off after the lights go out. A very small amount of light for a short period of time will stop your body from producing melatonin. It is recommended to have a night light if and only if it is red in color. Do not use white or blue night lights. Keep your bedroom vary dark except for Red night lights. City street lamps are now being converted to LED type lights which emit a lot of Blue Light. Make sure that such light is blocked with a good blind on the windows.
Walmart, Home Depot and such do not have Red Night Lights, but Amazon does. They have the 7 watt small red light bulbs that will fit older style night lights. They also have a Red/White/Blue LED Night Light; can be easily found by the model number MLN-50RWB-02. It is a bit expensive but seems to work ok. Check back and we may be able to source it for less cost.
You can wear the Moderate Blue Blockers anytime. It is recommended to wear them when using digital devices (TV, Computer, Tablet or Smart Phones) for long periods of time. If you suffer from AMD or are worried about getting AMD then you should wear them as much as possible.
Yes. Man has existed (in our present form) for 6,000 years and we evolved to not have blue light at night. It has only been in the last 130 years (the invention of the electric light bulb) have we had blue light at night. This is a very short time in evolutionary time, so the blue light at night is a problem. Now with digital devices and modern lighting with high contents of blue light our life style is causing us serious health problems because our circadian (sleep) cycle gets out of sync. If we block the problem blue light for 1.5 to 2 hours prior to bed time then our body will produce the hormone melatonin which gives us sound healthy sleep which is vital to a strong immune system and good brain health.
Maybe, as long as you do not have underlying medical issues, drug interaction or stress-full thoughts. If you still have difficulty falling to sleep using high blue blocking glasses then one thing that usually helps is to listen to slow relaxation music. You should keep in mind that even if some nights you have difficulty falling to sleep, lying in bed in the dark with melatonin present in your system is still providing benefit so continue to wear the blue blockers. Some people put on the blue blockers when the sun goes down. A music CD called Reflections of Nature is good for making people sleep. Another method is to have a hot shower 90 minutes prior to going to bed. It takes that long for the body to cool down which is a trigger for sleep. Also the scent of lavender oil may be a solution if racing thoughts are keeping you from going to sleep.
